As we all look forward to Christmas it is time to think of those less fortunate than ourselves. This year Catalina Software decided once again to support the Downham Market food bank, in their mission to provide Christmas hampers for local families. The aim was to help give those families the items they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford, including special treats and gifts for the children.
Catalina’s Jenny Simpson, who organised the donation commented “We know that Christmas is a very difficult time for some families and that many elements of Christmas are expensive and can feel out of reach. The team at the Downham Market foodbank provide ‘Christmas Day dinner in a box’ for families and had set themselves a target to increase the amount they were able to provide last year and so we pledged to help them meet it. The team at Catalina donated so generously and the Company matched staff donations making quite an impressive haul! So on Tuesday 17th December, we delivered a carload of Christmas essentials and some luxury treats to the food bank, along with bags full of gifts for the children. The team at the food bank work tirelessly all year round, but even more so at this time of year. It’s interesting to talk to them about the people that receive one of these boxes and how it can transform their Christmas. It certainly makes you realise not only the number of families struggling but just how quickly, through no fault of their own, they find themselves in the circumstances they do. We are very thankful to the foodbank team for working so hard to support the most vulnerable in our local community.”
The Downham Market & King’s Lynn foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust network of 428 food banks across the UK. In the 2018-19 financial year, these two foodbanks provided 4442 three-day emergency supplies to local families in crisis.
